Barry Rose

One of the world's leading choral directors, Barry Rose has run the choirs at three great English Cathedrals - Guildford, St.Paul's and St.Albans.

While still a student at the Academy he was appointed as the first Organist and Master of the Choristers of the new Guildford Cathedral. During his 14 years there the choir recorded for EMI, some of their records (now on CD) being still available some 35 years on.

He then became Music Adviser to the Head of Religious Broadcasting at the BBC, and later Master of the Choir at St.Paul's Cathedral where he directed the music at many great State Occasions, including the Queen's Silver Jubilee Service and the Wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Since retiring from the post of Master of the Music at St.Albans Cathedral in 1997 he has worked with choirs both here and in the USA, and as choral adviser to publishers Novello & Co., for whom he has edited some best-selling anthologies. He is also busy as a record producer and singer, with Wells Cathedral choir, and still finds time to play the organ, both at services and in concert.

His many recordings range from Mozart with Dame Kiri te Kanawa to the original soundtrack of The Snowman and the song "We're walking in the air" and he is unique amongst church musicians in having been awarded 1 Platinum, 3 Gold, and 2 Silver discs.

Dr. Rose is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music (FRAM), a fellow of the Royal School of Church Music (FRSCM), and was awarded the OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours of 1998.
